This is a cheat sheet that you can print and pin to the wall for Pycharm! This cheat sheet follows the 80/20 rule we love at Finxter! Existing app¶

These steps assume an existing app that works from the command line.

  1. Get the Django app running from the command line.

  2. Start pycharm.

  3. Add and enable the following plugins, any others that look useful, and theirdependencies:

    • Vue.js

    • Javascript support

  4. Restart PyCharm

  5. Open the base directory of the project (File -> Open -> nav to the top directoryof the project).

  6. Set up the Python virtualenv requirements file path

    • Open Settings (Control-Alt-S)

    • Go to Tools -> Python Integrated Tools

    • Set “Package requirements file” to the path to the requirements file

    • Click “OK”

  7. Ignored paths

    • Open the “Project” sidebar on the left (that shows all the projectdirs, files, etc

    • If you have a “node_modules” directory, right-click on it and fromthat menu, choose “Mark Directory As” -> “Excluded”.

    • Do the same if you have other directories you want PyCharm to ignore.I’ll typically do that with anything we’re not tracking in Git, sinceit’s not really part of the project source code.

  8. Set the virtualenv of the PyCharm project to be the virtualenv that yourworking Django app is using.

    • open Settings (Control-Alt-S)

    • go to Project: (name) -> Project Interpreter

    • Click the gear icon on the right side next to the field for the virtualenv path

    • Select “Add” from the menu

    • Choose “Existing environment”

    • Set the Interpreter field to the complete path to the python executable filein the virtualenv you want to use. You cannot edit the field directly - you have to use thebutton with 3 dots on its right end to pop up a file selection dialog.

    • Click “OK”, “OK”.

    • Wait for PyCharm to inspect the new virtualenv and update its indices.

Those are the important things to be able to nicely edit the project in PyCharm.It doesn’t cover other tasks like running, debugging, deploying, testing, etc.,nor the myriad of options that are more personal preferences.

This cheat sheet is one you will want to save in your bookmarks! It will show you all the shortcuts you need to get Pycharm working for you! JetBrains is the place to go if you want to learn PyCharm and Python!

Pros: Rated ‘E’ for everyone. Honestly! This is a great place to start!

Cons: Can’t be printed, but honestly worth bookmarking.

Cheat Sheet 2: Cheatography

Cheat Sheet 3: TutorialsPoint

This cheat sheet will guide you through Pycharm. From installation to Django. You will learn everything that you need to learn including shortcuts, writing HTML and CSS integration and Javascript support. Read all of it in one go or read the section that you need when you need it. You can either bookmark the pdf page or print it to save in your developers binder to keep on hand when you’re working.

Pros: Perfect for introducing and going in depth with Pycharm

Cons: None that I can see.

Cheat Sheet 4: ShortcutFoo

ShortcutFoo has a list of shortcuts made for Pycharm on debugging and editing, navigation and refactoring. You should bookmark this page and keep it handy online when you work in Pycharm. Ddj 400 windows 10.

Cons: None that I can see.

Cheat Sheet 5: RealPython

This is more an online guide than a cheat sheet that you can learn Pycharm from. You can build, debug, edit, and test. This guide even dives deeper into the database support and scientific mode.

Pros: Deep dives into Pycharm includes a professional module

Cons: Not an actual cheat sheet to download.

Cheat Sheet 6: ShortCut World

Another quick sheet for you to learn shortcuts from when you’re using Pycharm! This is presented by JetBrains! I would suggest bookmarking for your developers binder when you are working in Pycharm.

Pros: Quick guide into shortcuts

Cons: Does not download as a pdf

Cons: Is not a cheat sheet that can be printed.

Cheat Sheet 10: Edureka

This is the final tutorial instead of a cheat sheet for you to learn Pycharm and all of the shortcuts there at the bottom of the tutorial. This tutorial will help you download Pycharm and teach you important tools and features.

Pros: It will go over Python and Pycharm.

Cons: None that I can see.
